Born in Drummond, Ottawa, Canada, December 12, 1855, he was the son of Thomas and Charlotte Cassel and the youngest of five children. On May 11, 1877, he was married to Catherine Foley and to this union were born seven children. He came to Michigan in 1880, and was for a time employed on the Asa Newman farm, after which he established his own farm home in Sebewa. Surviving are five sons, Thomas W. of Washington; Asa, of Reed City; Oscar, of Portland, and Frank and Vernie of Sebewa. There are 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are at the Sebewa Methodist church this afternoon at 2:00, with the Rev. Jacob. S. Grimes officiating. Burial is in the Sebewa cemetery beside his wife, who died in 1932. Pallbearers are Ernest and Harry York, Victor Wilson, and Henry Whorley, all of Sebewa.
