Herbert M. Castle, 81, died suddenly Friday noon at his home on VanderHeyden
court following a brief illness.  He had been in poor health for the past two
years and during the past two weeks had been confined to his bed much of the time.

The son of Mary and Nelson Castle, he was born and raised on the Castle
homestead northeast of Ionia.  He began farming on the homestead farm and
continued in that work until a few years ago when he retired from active work. 
He moved to Ionia city about two years ago and has made his home at VanderHeyden
court since that time.

Surviving are a nephew, Clifford Rice, of St. Johns; and two nieces, Mrs. Helen
Tabor of East Lansing and Miss Blanche Castle of Los Angeles, California.  Mrs.
Della Rich has been employed as housekeeper for Mr. Castle for the past 28 years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Myers funeral home
on East Main street.
