Clifford Castle at the Grand Trunk railroad depot to receive the body of the young Ionian who was killed in Korea. The body arrived on the 5:17 train and was taken to the Myers funeral home where funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock by the Rev. George Rentschler. The funeral will be a full military ceremony with the Rex Leland post in charge of arrangements assisted by the Ionia VFW post. Frank Wirtz; long-time friend of the Castle family, will sound taps at the interment in Balcom cemetery. Pallbearers for the funeral will include a veteran of the Korea war who has been discharged, Allen Wizorek. Other pallbearers are to be Richard Anderson, Melvin Badder and Ronald Davis. All were boyhood pals of the late Cpl. Castle. Castle’s funeral is just four days prior to what would have been his 23rd birthday. He was killed in Korea July 7 when the tank in which he was riding went out of control and rolled over on him after he had leaped from it. Mayor Anthony Balice, who was at the station for the arrival of the body, has requested by proclamation that all flags be flown at half-mast until the time of the funeral.
