April 2018 KATHY ANN CASTOR, 62 Kathy Ann Castor, 62, of Ionia, passed away April 17, 2018, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing after a long, well fought struggle with emphysema and asthma. She was born Sept.12, 1955, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Vernon and Jean (Sidney) Miller. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dave, Rich, and Rusty; and also by close friend, Rebecca Munn. She married Mark Castor in 1974. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2013 and they had her cherished children Amanda and Peter. Surviving are her son, Peter (Denise) Castor of Ionia; and daughter, Amanda (Gia) Castor; her brother, Butch (Pam) Miller of Grand Rapids; sister, Karol Miller of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her beloved partner, George Brown, whom she affectionately called "G" and who called her, with equal affection, "K". She worked at Sparrow Ionia Hospital where she made many friendships, including her boss and good friend Steve Corkwell. Kathy made other close friends all her life including, especially, her best friend and traveling "sister", Leslie Bendall of Saranac. She loved the UP beaches, and was especially fond of Grand Marais, where she collected agates, fossils, and other stones with a keen eye for beauty. Kathy was fond of dancing, clogging, collecting period glass, floating on Gull Lake with Leslie, and going to Happy Wheatland with her family and friends each and every September. She was a master cook, especially at the grill and enjoyed cooking for and pleasing all who came to visit. Having travelled to Cornwall, England years ago she was also an Anglophile and read hundreds of English novels with delight. All who knew Kathy were treated to her warm laugh, her ready smile and her constantly upbeat nature. She lived the life she chose and did it very well.
