Catt, 53, Ronald township, died at Blodgett hospital, Grand Rapids, Tuesday morning at 3 o’clock following an illness of two months. Mr. Catt was taken ill the last of December. He was taken to the hospital two weeks ago for observation and submitted to a major operation Saturday. He was born in Ronald Township November 9, 1881, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Catt. As a boy he attended the Mattison school in Ronald township and later assisted his father with farm work. In 1898 he left for the Spanish-American war where he served for two years. He was married in 1902 to Miss Hattie Hall, of Orange township, and they began housekeeping in Ionia where Mr. Catt was employed as engineer on the Pere Marquette railroad. In 1925 they moved to the old Catt homestead in Ronald township where he was born, and Mr. Catt continued with the railroad company until last December when he was taken sick. He was employed with the railroad company for 34 years. He was a member of the Ionia Masonic order, of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen, and a member of the Spanish war veterans, Camp No. 56, of which he was also trustee. Surviving are the widow, one son, Maurice Catt, of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Adrian Weyland of Kalamazoo and Miss Martha Catt, who teaches at Leslie; one brother, Roy Catt, Ionia township, and one grandchild, Lucille Catt, of Detroit. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home in Ronald township. Interment will be in the family lot at the Palo cemetery.
