  Excerpts from Grand Rapids Obituary

     John E. Caulkins

Died Monday, October 23, 1944-age 27 at Univ. of Mich.Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI.
Was accidentally wounded last week while hunting on the Grand River flats.
John was injured when his companion, George Morman, 17, reportedly shot at a 
pheasant without realizing Caulkins was in the line of fire.
Survived by his parents Mr.& Mrs. Eber Caulkins, a sister, Mrs.Anna Thornton of 
Ionia & three brothers, James & Clifford at home & Archie in the Navy.
Servcies will be held at 10:30 am  Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.
