Chadwick, Veteran Muir Grand Trunk Agent, Dead Byron H. Chadwick who was a resident of the village of Muir for many years passed away at his home there this morning after an illness lasting about two years. Mr. Chadwick was the agent at the Grand Trunk depot for years, but had not been able to work since taken ill two years ago last December. He was well known throughout the county, and at the time of his death was 65 years of age. Mr. Chadwick was also agent for the Grand Trunk at Vernon, Mich., for many years. He was a member of Lyons Lodge No. 37, F & A.M., and of Lyons chapter No. 60, R.A.M., and was a member of the Knights Templar at Corunna. Mr. Chadwick is survived by his widow and two children Dr. William Chadwick of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. D.O. Butterfield, of all of that, both of whom arrived in Muir Monday evening. The funeral announcement has not been made. -------- The funeral for Byron H. Chadwick was held from his late residence in Muir Thursday. The Rev. W.K. Spencer, who is pastor of the Presbyterian church there, was called from Alma, where he had gone to attend a meeting of the Synod of Michigan, and conducted the house services. Mrs. M.O. Greenhoe saying “Rock of Ages,” with an organ accompaniment by Mrs. J. Lee Strahan. Delegations from Lyons Lodge No. 37, F.&A.M., and Ionia Commandery Knights Templar, in both of which bodies Mr. Chadwick held membership, attended the services at the house. J.E. Wolford, S.W. Kimball, S.W. Keefer, W.G. Meach, George I. Strachan, and T.E. Jackson were the pallbearers, and they, with the exception of Mr. Strachan, accompanied the remains to Coopersville, where they were interred with the Masonic ritualistic services, in the family cemetery lot in sight of the old homestead, where Mr. Chadwick was born about 65 years ago, where his boyhood and early manhood were spent, and where his only surviving sister lives at present. In the service at the grave members of the Coopersville Lodge participated. At an early age Mr. Chadwick entered the employ of the Grand Trunk Railroad company, and held positions as stationmaster at various places along the line, including Ferrysberg, Vernon, and Greenville. From the latter place he went to Muir about 15 years ago, and continued in the service of the company there until two years and a half ago, when he was obliged to retire on account of ill health. Besides his widow, there are two surviving children, Dr. William Chadwick, of Grand Rapids, and Eleanor, wife of D.O. Butterfield, of Olivet, both of whom were with him when the end came. Last Sunday night his condition became serious, but he rallied so that it was hoped he was out of immediate danger, and an hour before his death occurred he was about the house and walked downstairs with assistance. Ten minutes before he died he was fondling his two grandchildren. He had a large circle of friends, who were shocked at his sudden passing. Among the floral offerings were emblematic pieces from the Order of Railroad Telegraphers of which Mr. Chadwick was a member, as well as from the various Masonic bodies.
