Chamberlain, 79, 254 W. Riverside Drive, died Monday in Grand Rapid's Butterworth Hospital. She was born on Sept. 25, 1900, in Ionia, the daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Hicking) Bailey, and was a life-long resident. A graduate of Ionia High School, she worked at the Ionia State Hospital, and retired in May 1967. Mrs. Chamberlain was a member of the Ionia Business and Professional Women's Club, and served as it's president for two terms, in 1963 and 1965. She was also instrumental in preserving the areas fluoride treatment program, and was elected Woman of the Year in 1975. In addition, she was a member of the Historical Society, the Wesleyan guild, and the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Theodore (Fannie) Sprank Sr. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Hausermann officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Leddick Funeral Home. Burial will be at Balcom Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ionia County Cancer Society.
