March 12, 2013 Robert (Bob) Joe Chambers, 74, of Fenwick, Mich., passed away on March 8, 2013 in Pensacola, Fla., after experiencing a stroke. Robert was born in Palo, Mich., on Aug. 26, 1938. He graduated from Ionia High School and continued his education with additional courses and lessons throughout his lifetime. Robert was married to his best friend and soul mate, Patricia Mary Hodgkins on Dec. 18, 1959, and they were married 53 perfect years. While taking care of each other day to day, they provided their children and grandchildren with a wonderful example of family, partnership and unconditional love. They had been enjoying their winters in Destin, Fla. Robert worked primarily as a truck driver, both as an owner operator, and for several companies. Bob loved to watch tennis matches and played a great game himself. He remodeled cars and motorhomes, and had a talent for home improvement, upholstery, art and design. He approached life with humor and determination, enjoying a challenge. He was involved, interested and proud of, each of his children and grandchildren, and found joy in spending time with them. He was their go-to person for guidance and straight-forward advice. His gruff exterior never truly hid his inner warmth, or willingness to help others. Robert is survived and cherished by his wife Patty; son Tom (Dot) Chambers; daughters, Cindy (Ed) Alexander, and Sharon (Pete) Mathisen; and seven grandchildren, Mark, Challis (Adam), Nicole (Joel), Jared (Beth), Eric, Kelsey and Redd; and a great grandchild, Oliver. He is also survived and will be dearly missed by his sisters, Norma (Doug) Hogan, and Betty (Jerry) Walker and many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Roger Chambers, also of Palo, Mich. In lieu of flowers, please send cards and condolences to Patricia Chambers at 419 E. South County Road, Fenwick, MI 48834. An informal celebration of his life will be held in the summer. Bob has asked to forgo a funeral or memorial service. The family would like to thank Johnson-Fueurstein Funeral Home in Belding for providing the arrangements for his cremation.
