Galen S. Chapin, 69, of Oklawaha, Fla., died Sunday at the Monroe hospital in 
Oklawaha.  He was a former Lake Odessa and Southfield resident.  

He was born in Orange township February 9, 1906, the son of Melvin and Nancy 
Shaw Chapin.  He attended the Lake Odessa high school and later moved to 
Southfield where he was a plumbing and heating contractor in the Detroit area 
48 years retiring in 1971, when he moved to Florida.

He was married at Lake Odessa July 30, 1927, to Evelyn Switzer and she survives 
as do a daughter, Nancy Chapin of Oklawaha, Fla.; son, Jack Chapin of Livonia, 
five grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Arthur Hart of St. Petersburg, Fla., and 
brother, Roger Chapin of Colchester, Ontario, Canada.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Pickens Koops funeral home chapel 
at Lake Odessa.  Rev. William Hertel will officiate and interment will be at 
the Lakeside cemetery.
