           VILLAGE SHOCKED TO LEARN OF DEATH OF MRS. HARRIET KUSSMAUL-CHAPIN
                                                    ----------------------------
   ILLNESS OF FEW HOURS RESULT IN HER DEATH.  PNEUMONIA FOLLOWS AN ATACK OF FLU. 
                                        LEAVES PARENTS AND YOUNG HUSBAND.
                                                     ----------------------------
   Everyone was surprised to hear of the death of "Hattie Kussmaul" as she was
familiarly called but who was 
really Mrs. LaVerne Chapin, and only child of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Kussmaul of this
village.
   Hattie as everyone knew her was always a lively little miss; always a favorite
with her schoolmates and 
admired by everyone especially for her musical ability.   Almost from infancy to her
young womanhood she 
was most at home at the piano and with the violin.  On Sunday before her death on
Tuesday she played 
seemingly as never before.
    On Monday morning she was stricken with pneumonia and died Tuesday afternoon. 
The lungs filling fast 
and the heart unable to resist.  Everything was done that was possible, but death
came Hattie clasping her 
testament to her breast to the last.
   She was married in the fall soon after her return from a visit in California, to
LeVerne Chapin of this village 
and the young people went to live in Ionia where Mr. Chapin was employed.
   She leaves sorrow stricken husband and parents and a class of school girls with
whom she was closely 
associated besides many relatives and friends.
   The funeral will be held Friday at the home, Rev. R. E. Showerman will give the
talk and Mrs Rose Irwin and 
Miss Dorothy Leak will sing accompanied by Mrs. Chas. Hill.  Burial will be at
Lakeside cemetery.
