Lake Odessa Wave - July 26, 1962
          MELVIN CHAPIN, 87 PASSED AWAY MONDAY

   Melvin Chapin, 87, retired plumber and welder, passed away Monday evening at his
home at 301 First Street, 
Sunfield.  He was born at Portland, the son of Sidney and Jane Rogers Chapin and was
a former local resident 
and had been employed at Detroit for 18 years and lived in Danby for 20 years before
moving to Sunfield 
three years ago.

   He married Nancy Shaw in Ionia in 1898.

   Surviving are his wife Nancy; a daughter Mrs. Arthur (Marjorie) Hart of Walled
Lake; two sons Roger B. of 
Detroit and Galen S. of Southfield; a sister Mrs. Mabel Davis of Lake Odessa; 3
grandchildren and five great 
grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) at 3:30 at the Pickens Funeral
Chapel with burial in Lakeside 
cemetery.  Rev. Eugene Friesen of Sunfield will officiate.
