Lake Odessa Wave - September 7, 1961
          FORMER RESIDENT DIED IN FERNDALE

   Vernon W. Chapin, 57 of Ferndale and former local resident passed away at Harper
hospital.  Wednesday 
morning, August 30, after a long illness and had been hospitalized for two weeks.

   He was born in Sebewa township, son of Melvin and Nancy Chapin and was a graduate
of the local high 
school.  For a number of years he was employed by the Briggs Mfg. Co. in Detroit and
for the last 16 years by 
the Chrysler Corp. of Detroit.

   Vernon was a member of the Lake Odessa F&AM lodge.

   Surviving are his wife, the former Beulah Reed; his parents; a sister, Mrs.
Marjorie Hart of Novi; two 
brothers, Roger of Detroit and Galen of Southfield; four step-daughters, Mrs. Harold
(Lozia) Buxton and Mrs. 
Allen (Kathryn) Wieczorek of Ionia, Mrs. Melvin (Lois) Fry of Woodland, and Mrs.
James (Doris) Reuser of 
Byron Center; two step-sons, Stanley Reed of Ionia and Ivan Reed of Schoolcraft and
step grandchildren.

   Funeral services were held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pickens Funeral Chapel
with burial in Lakeside 
cemetery.
