Chapman Expires After Being Confined to House One Week E. Frank Chapman was born in Ionia county, Mich., November 23, 1857. At the age of twelve he moved to Isabella county, and at the age of 21 he came to Stanton, where he has resided continuously for a period of 36 years. Upon his arrival he began immediately to engage in the business of phytography in copartnership with his brother, I.O. They were together for a period of fourteen years when his brother sold out to him, and he has since then carried on the business by himself. He lived in his present residence for a period of 23 years. He was a regular attendant at the M.E. church services and took great interest in the work. He was a member of Stanton Star Lodge No. 250, F & A.M., and Crescent Chapter No. 47, O.E.S., and was a regular attendant, holding an office in the former order a number of years. Mr. Chapman was married in 1885 to Miss Alice Gardner. Four children were born to them of whom three are living. He had a light stroke of paralysis two years ago in July, since which time his health has been gradually failing, till Thursday of last week when he had another stroke, and passed into the spirit world last Monday morning at 6:20, having been confined to the house only one week at the time of his demise. He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Ilau Gould, two sons, Verne and Merton, all of Stanton; also two brothers, Herbert, of near Portland, and Bert, of Clare county, and one sister, Mrs. Maude Howard of near Blanchard, and many other relatives and friends. Mr. Chapman was a kind and loving husband and father; he was a good neighbor and loyal friend. His genial presence will be greatly missed not only in his own home but in his place of business and among the men on the business street. Funeral services were held from the residence Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Wm. Wiedenhoeft officiating. The Masonic order and Order of the Eastern Star attended in a body. All of the business places closed during the services. Interment in Forest Hill cemetery. Relatives and friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Maud Howard, of Blanchard; Bert Chapman, of Clare county; Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Chapman and son, of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Stark of Grand Rapids; Mrs. L.H. Cleveland and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Gardner and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Gardner, of Saginaw; Mr. and Mrs. Will Sagendorf, of Edmore; Mrs. W.H. Gardner, of Midland.
