Born in Detroit to Robert and Helen Calnon Caldwell on June 6, 1933, she married Frederick A. Chapman of Orleans Township on Feb. 27, 1954 in Detroit. A graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart High School in Detroit, she attended the University of Detroit where she was a member of Kappa Beta Gamma Sorority. Pat was an avid birdwatcher. She focused much of her efforts on raising her family. Mrs. Chapman was a dedicated volunteer in many of her children’s activities, whether at school or in her daughter’s U.S. Pony Club activities or her son’s Boy Scouts of American functions. In addition to raising her family. She worked at the Sudbury (Mass.) Nursing Home and was a Welcome Wagon hostess in North Hampton, N.H. She also bred registered Persians cats and was an avid bowler. Pat was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Ionia since 1900 when she and her husband moved to Orleans Township from New Jersey. She is survived by her husband Frederick; daughter Laurie (John A. Bosco) Chapman-Bosco of Rochester, N.H.; son Frederick A. (Cynthia L.) Chapman III of Churchville, Penn.; and six grandchildren, Kimberly L. Chapman, Melissa A. Chapman, Frederick A. Chapman IV, Thomas A. Chapman, Jennifer E. Bosco and Andrew J. Bosco and many nieces and nephews. A Christian mass of burial will be celebrated by Fr. Melvin Fox Saturday, 11 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, Feb. 20, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 10 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. Mass. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to SS. Peter & Paul Education Trust, 434 High Street, Ionia, MI 48846, Academy of the Sacred Heart, 1250 Kensington Rd., Bloomfield, Mi 48304, or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312. Interment will be in the spring at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Ionia Township.
