Aug. 5, 1926 MRS. CHAPMAN LAID TO REST IN MT. OLIVET Throngs Pay Final Tribute to Beloved Ionia Woman in Services Thursday Morn. Rev. Fr. H. D. McCarthy Pays Glowing Tribute to Qualities of Unselfish Devotion. Amid great masses of flowers and after funeral services attended by hundreds of the friends she loved as well as by prominent churchmen from all parts of the state, Mrs. Fred A. Chapman was laid to rest this morning in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Rev. Fr. Hugh D. McCarthy, of SS. Peter and Paul's church, delivered the sermon at the funeral services held at 9 a.m. in the church. He spoke of the high type of Christian womanhood represented by Mrs. Chapman in her life which was brought to a tragic end Monday in its forty-eight year. He told of her great spirit of charity and unselfishness how these qualities had borne her up through her long illness. Though weakened by ill health, her every thought had been a desire to bring sunshine into the lives of others and the friends who came Thursday morning to pay their final measure of devotion to her memory bore witness to the esteem in which she was held not only, in this city which was her home but everywhere she was known. Solemn High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. P. J. Howard. C. S. B. of Assumption college, Sandwich, Ont.. Participating priests were Rev. Fr. Hugh D. McCarthy, deacon; Rev. Fr. Thomas Beahan. subdeacon; Rev. Fr. Mead, CSSR, master of ceremonies; and Rev. Fr. R. A. O'Pecte of Carson City; Rev. Fr. John Gabriels, Lansing; Rev. Fr. George Esper, Fowler; Rev. Fr. Joseph Malon, Belding;Rev. Fr. William O'Rourke, Portland; Rev. Fr. Charles Utenberg, Pewamo. The latter priests were seated in the sanctuary. The Rosary society, St. Anthony's guild, Knights of Columbus, and Elks attended the service in a body. Knights of Columbus were present from Pewamo, Westphalia, and Fowler. Among the relatives and out of town friends attended attended the service were: Mr and Mrs Henry Lauhuff and family, Miss Ida M. Denk, Miss Aurelia Denk, Mr and Mrs Hugo J. Denk and Mr and Mrs Eugene C. Denk , and Mr and Mrs Norbert F. Denk of Detroit; Mrs Anna Chapman of Toledo; Nr and Mrs John NcGarvey, Detroit; Mr and Mrs Frank Chapman, Toledo; Mr and Mrs Fred Gausman, Toledo; Mr and Mrs Ales Chapman, Detroit; Mr and Mrs Fred Chapman, Detroit; Miss Ella Allaire, Detroit; Mr and Mrs John E. Chapman, Ionia; M. M. Reed Ypsilanti; Mr and Mrs A. D. McBurney, Jackson; Mr and Mrs D W. Smith, Port Huron; Mr and Mrs Wallace Brown, Grand Rapids; Mr and Mrs Ira Enos, Grand Rapids; Mr and Mrs E. W. Dickerson, Grand Rapids; Mr and Mrs Charles Koerber, Detroit; Joseph Telpel, Detroit; Dr. and Mrs Robert H. Haskell, Northville; Mr and Mrs Fred Boylan, Grand Rapids. Solos were sung by Edward McGrath of Detroit, and Miss Mary Katherine Longe. The pallbearers were Mayor Fred W. Green, Thane Benedict, E. F. Gallagher, A. D. McBurney, Harry H.
