He was born October 4, 1941 in Grand Rapids the son of Louis W. and Martha (Rump) Charon. He married J. Dianne Moore November 21, 1964 in Lansing. Bill was a Michigan State Police Officer from 1963 until 1997. He was the Ionia Post Commander from 1978 until 1985. He retired as a captain and District Commander from the State Police. He was retired for one day before becoming the Director for Ionia Central Dispatch in 1997, where he was currently employed. Bill is survived by his wife J. Dianne Charon of Ionia. Mother Martha Charon of Florida. Children William Patrick Charon and Jennifer Naab of Ionia, John Ethan and Michelle Charon of Galesburg, Richard Andrew and Heather Charon of Ionia, James Joseph Charon of Ionia, Daniel Thomas Charon of Ionia, Steven Zachary Charon of Ionia, Brianne Larissa Charon of Ionia. Mother in law J. Modene Moore of Ionia. Brothers Frederick Charon of Florida, John and Sandy Charon of Grand Haven, Michael and Sandy Charon of Florida, James and Lori Charon of Florida. Sisters Barbara Gray of Florida, Ruth and Greg Nagel of Colorado. Grandchildren Jessi, Ethan, Cheyenne, Eli and Ricky. He was preceded in death by his Father Louis Charon. Father in law Herb Moore, brother in law Calvin Gray. Services will be held Friday 11 a.m. at the Saranac High School Auditorium with Pastor Paul Leslie officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. In lieu of flowers anyone wishing may make memorial contributions in care of Bill's Family.
