Chase, 67, 327 Pleasant street, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ionia County Memorial hospital after a short illness. He was born February 3, 1892, in Ionia township the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Chase. He attended Case school and Lansing Business school. He was married January 3, 1914 to Acenath Ely, and except for a short time spent in Lansing, had lived his entire life in North Plains and Ionia. Mr. Chase was employed as sergeant of guards at the Michigan Reformatory at the time of his death and was a former member of Ionia County Board of Supervisors from Ionia city first ward. He was a member of the First Christian church and had served as Sunday school superintendent, deacon, church trustee and church treasurer. He was a member of the Masonic lodge. Surviving besides his wife, Acenath, are one son, Jack E. Chase of East Lansing and three grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. August 11 at the First Christian church of Ionia. The Rev. Carl Croel and Rev. Court Adams, both of Lansing, will conduct the service. Interment will be at North Plains cemetery. The body of Mr. Chase will remain at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home until about an hour before the service. A church memorial fund will be received in honor of Mr. Chase.
