Chase, 68, retired Ionia township farmer, died at his home in Muir early Friday morning. Mr. Chase had been in ill health for some time. He was born January 14, 1880, in Ionia township, where he lived until March 28, 1944, when he moved to his home in Muir following his retirement from farming. Mr. Chase belonged to Lyons lodge F. and A.M. No. 37, of which he had been an active member. Surviving is his wife, Maude; three daughters, Mrs. Vivian Lamphere and Mrs. Norma Eckley, both of Muir, and Mrs. Betty Ackerson of East Lansing; one brother, Ernest Chase, of Ionia; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held Sunday, April 4, at the North Plains church at 2:00 p.m. Masonic services will be in charge of Lyons lodge F. and A.M. No. 37. Burial will be at North Plains cemetery. Dr. Paul L. Stewart of Ionia will officiate. Subsequent Publication: Monday, April 5, 1948 Masonic rites were held Sunday, April 4, for John Chase at the North Plains church. Dr. Paul Stewart officiated and Bert Fox was acting master. Interment was in North Plains cemetery. Mr. Chase died at his Muir home Friday morning. Mrs. A. C. Hayes and Mrs. William Bennett were in charge of the flowers. Bearers were Owen Smith, William Bennett, George Staley, Monty Spaulding, Ford Weaver and Ralph Kimball. Relatives attending from away were Forrest Fea and Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Salisbury of Blanchard; Frank Fea, Robert Barr and Joe Chase of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fea, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Marlin and Mrs. Fanny Barr of Alma; Mrs. Elsie Strouts, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Palenske and Miss Jacqueline Strouts of Benton Harbor; Mr. and Mrs. William Dadson and Mrs. William Martin of Hubbardston; Mr. and Mrs. James Gallagher, Mr. and Mrs. George Gallagher and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sharp of Ionia; and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hantel of Portland.
