Chase received the painful news, Monday, that his son, Carroll Flood (“Bud”) Chase, had dropped dead while talking to some friends in the lobby of a hotel in New York City, on Sunday afternoon. He had apparently been in his usual good health and had not complained of feeling ill and the news of the sudden death was the first intimation that Major Chase had that all was not well and it came as a great shock to the father and also to the many friends of the deceased in this city and vicinity. The remains are now enroute to this city and will reach here Thursday night. They will be taken out to the old home in Smyrna, where he spent his boyhood and young manhood days and the funeral will be held from the house on Friday afternoon, at two o’clock, standard time. Burial will be made in Smyrna cemetery. “Bud” Chase, as he is better known and remembered by his friends here, was 44 years old at the time of his death. He studied dentistry and took up the practice of that profession, but gave it up after a time and devoted himself to theatrical work, having been a producer of various theatrical enterprises for a number of years past. He was well known and well liked by the people of this city and Smyrna who knew him before he left here and news of his death will come as a distinct shock to all who knew him.
