Stella Mae Chase, 98, of Saranac, died Jan. 28, 1995, at Blodgett Memorial
Medical Center, Grand Rapids.  She was born in Easton Township, May 28, 1896,
the daughter of Burt and Mary (Taylor) Arnold.  She was a direct descendant of
pioneer families who settled in Ionia County.  

She graduated from Saranac High School in 1914.  She married Herman Chase in
1916 in Ionia.  She was a past Noble Grand of the Rebekahs; a member of the
Boston-Saranac Historical Society; and a 4-H Club Leader for many years.

She is survived by two daughters: Phyllis Kurz, of Ohio; Mary (Dr. Norman )
Gatzemeyer, of Mason; one daughter-in-law, Jean Chase, of Saranac; 11
grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her
husband Herman, in 1979; one son, Robert A. Chase, on Jan. 8, 1995; and one
brother, Martin Arnold.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Easton United Methodist Church. 
The Rev. Peter VandeBrake will officiate.  Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. 
Visitation will be on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral
Home, in Saranac.  Memorials may be made to the Boston-Saranac Historical
Society, or memorial of choice.
