Wave, Thursday, June 21, 1945 A.E. CHASE, 88, DIED SATURDAY Adelbert E. Chase, 88, died in St. Lawrence hospital at Lansing early Saturday morning following a short illness. He was born at Cato, Cayuga county, N.Y. on May 21, 1857, and moved with his parents to Essex, Mich. in 1862. As a young man he was much interested in farming but later following his marriage to Miss Florence Wilbur in December, 1880, he edited a newspaper at Ithaca for several years. At one time he had interests in newspapers at Ithaca, Alma and St. Louis, Mich. Prior to his coming to Lake Odessa, he was a highway contractor for a few years. In 1924 he came here to live with his son, Mr. and Mrs. Hollis H. Chase, owners of the local theater, but spent most of his winters with his daughter, Mrs. Charles D. Cole at Washington, D.C. and in Florida. Surviving besides the son and daughter are four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Wortley & Baine chapel Monday afternoon with the Rev. J. Lawrence Ward, a former neighbor and lifetime friend, officiating, and later at the mausoleum in Maple Rapids cemetery, where interment was made.
