Ionia Daily Standard, 20 Nov 1907

Mrs. Sophia D. Chase died Nov. 16, at home of her daughter, Mrs. W.J. Weikel,
Charlevoix, where she had been since leaving Ionia about a year ago.  

Her maiden name was Sophia DeMarse, and she was born in state of New York in
1827.  She had been a resident of Ionia since 1871.  Her husband, Chas. Chase,
died 12 years ago.  Four children survive: Fanny, widow of Jas. Hawkhurst, of
this city; Mary, wife of Mr. Bickford, of Waupun, Wis., George H. of Albion, and
Leo, wife of W. J. Weikel, under sheriff, Charlevoix.

Funeral service was held at Charlevoix Monday afternoon.  Remains arrived here
accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Weikel, last night, and were buried beside her
husband in Highland Park this morning, brief service being held at the grave by
Rev. Dr. Cogshall.  The son, George H. was present, but Mrs. Bickford was unable
to come.
