Cheney, 75, died at his home, 1076 West Main street, Sunday morning at 10 o’clock. Mr. Cheney had been in ill health for the past three years, but was taken seriously ill three weeks ago. He was born in Fairplains township, Montcalm county, September 9, 1860, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Cheney. He attended district schools in that township for a time and when 13 years old his parents died and he went to Orleans to live with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Cheney. There he attended the Orleans school. He was married April 27, 1881 to Miss Ada Howell, in Ionia township and they resided for a few months in that township with her father and began housekeeping that year in Ronald township on the farm now owned by Harry McLain. They purchased their farm in Ronald and constructed new buildings, and they resided there for 40 years. In 1921 they moved to Ionia and for the past 14 years they have lived in the same home on West Main street. Mr. Cheney was a former member of the Orleans Banner grange. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Ada Cheney; one son, Ray Cheney, of Peerless, Montana; and two granddaughters. Funeral services will be held from the home, 1076 West Main street, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Paul L. Stewart, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be at the family crypt in the Highland Park mausoleum.
