She had not been in the best of health for several years, but had always been able to take a fairly active part in the work of her church and community. Mrs. Chick was born August 11, 1872 in Montcalm county, the daughter of Hiram and Susan Haring. She attended rural schools in Gratiot county and the high school in Hubbardston and except for a few year at Ithaca, where her father was county clerk, she has lived in this community. For several years she taught music lessons. May 1905 she as united in marriage to Chas. A. Ludwick. To this union was born a daughter, Florence, who survives. Mr. Ludwick passed away in December 1929. On June 11, 1932 she was married to Fred Chick and for the last 13 years they have lived on the farm north of Hubbardston where she passed away. In early childhood she united with the Methodist church, and has been a most zealous worker in every department since. Mrs. Chick worked for years as the corresponding secretary and president of the Woman’s Missionary Society, has always been a member of the Ladies Aid, a member of the choir a good many years, and was never called on for work that she did not respond willingly as long as she was able. Mrs. Chick is the last member of the family of five, two sisters and two brothers preceding her in death. Besides the husband, who survives, she leaves a daughter, Florence Hansen of Stanton, two grandchildren, Joanne and Gene Hansen, two stepsons, Howard and George Chick of Maple Rapids, step- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was a real neighbor, a friend and helper to all in time of need. A true Christian, unassuming, quiet and loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed in the community by both young and old. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the Hubbardston Methodist church with arrangements in charge of Abbott Funeral Home of Maple Rapids. Rev. Park Newcomb officiated and interment was in Westside cemetery.
