September 21, 2024 CHICKERING Thomas Chickering, 81, of rural Rockford, passed away at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital on September 16,2024. Thomas was born in Belding on June 3, 1943, the son of Herbert and Helen (McGeough)Chickering. After high school, he went on to work as a machine repairman at General Motors for over 30 years, "retired" for two weeks, and then went to work for Penske for another 5 years. He was a car man at heart and loved anything that went fast, he loved his GTO judge, and even built at Shelby Cobra Kit Car. An avid snowmobile fan, he enjoyed many trips to the U.P. to ride the trails, he especially enjoyed the trips he took to Yellowstone to ride. He was a tinkerer, you could always find him out in his shop working on something, when he wasn't tinkering, he liked to tell jokes and was an all-around social guy. He enjoyed his time with his breakfast buddies at the Bridge Street Cafe and never missed any of his grandkid's events. From sports to concerts and everything in between, he was a good grandpa and attended every event he could. Sometimes when there wasn't much else going on, he'd hop in his car and drive, sometimes up to Traverse City, just to have lunch and come back home. Thomas is survived by his children; Tammi (Greg) Kneale of Lake Odessa, Chris (Shanon)Chickering of Saranac, his grandchildren:Megan Wittenbach, Amelia (Tyler) McGinnis, Mackenzie(Kevin)Treman, Mary O'Hara, Kylie (Joe) Hendes, Hunter Chickering, eight great-grandkids, his sibblings; Richard(Mary Lou) Chickering of Belding, Ceclia (Gene) Trebian of Shiloh, along with many other extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn, a daughter; Darcey O'Hara, a son: Aaron Chickering, and a brother; Chick Chickering. Memorial services will be held on Friday September 27th at 11 a.m. at Johnson Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. A visitation will be held on Thursday September 26th from 5pm-8pm, also at the funeral home.
