The driver of the car, Daniel Chiello, 25, of 576 State St. was pinned in the vehicle and was dead on arrival at Parkview hospital. He suffered a broken neck and a fractured skill. A passenger in the front seat, Gordon L. Nummer, 21 Route 2, Ionia, was taken to the hospital in critical condition with head injuries. Robert C. Carten, 21, Route 1, Ionia, who was in the back seat, was in fair condition with head injuries. The truck driver, James L. Nichols, Route 2, Roanoke, Indiana, was not hurt. Indiana police informed Ionia state police that the accident occurred about 5:30 a.m. and the car the Ionians were riding in went through a red light and was struck by the truck. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Chiello, 509 W. Washington St. were the parents of Chiello and he was born in New York City on November 7, 1937 and was a 1955 graduate of SS. Peter and Paul Academy. He served four years in the United States Navy. Those surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Louise and two children, John 5 and Kurt 1 and his foster grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Balice. Funeral services were held at Myers funeral home on Monday, November 19, at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
