Ethelyn M. Childs, 96, of Belding, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2000 at her
home.  She was born May 25, 1903, in Belding to Lewis and Nellie Barker Steele. 

Ethelyn graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1922.  She owned
and operated the former Ethelyn Childs Insurance Agency in Belding for many
years.  Ethelyn was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Belding Business
and Professional Women’s Association and a former member of the original Gootch
Family.

On Aug. 24, 1924 in Belding, she was married to Charles L. Childs.  He preceded
her in death on April 18, 1956.  She also was preceded in death by her parents
and one sister, Vivian Smith.  She is survived by her children, Gay N. and
Richard Huizenga of Belmont, Robert and Alice Childs of Belding; 10
grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews; and her death friend, Thelma Baker.  Ethelyn was a very
loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home,
Belding, with Pastor Kendall Harger officiating.  Burial will be in River Ridge
Cemetery.  Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  Memorials may
be made to Hospice of West Michigan, the Grattan Museum or the Belding Museum.
