Ionia Sentinel, Dec 2002

Leah Christensen, 90, passed away Monday, Dec. 9. 2002, at her home in 
Hillsdale.

Leah was born Sept. 20, 1912 in Ionia, to Dr. C. G. and Helen (Eddy) Winchell.  
She was a 1930 graduate of Ionia High School, a 1931 graduate of the University 
of Michigan dental hygienist program, a member of First Christian Church of 
Ionia, active in the ladies society of the church, and she volunteered at the 
hospital.

On Aug. 20, 1933 she married Carl Christensen.  He passed away April 30, 2002.

Surviving are one daughter, Dr. Fred (Carolyn) Shiery of Camden; one son, Dr. 
J. F. (Ann) Christensen of Buchanan; one sister, Esther Louise VanDalen of 
Midland; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  

Also preceding her in death were two brothers and one sister.

Graveside services are 2 p.m., Thursday at Balcolm Cemetery in Ionia with the 
Reverend Don Lee officiating.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale 
County or the donor’s choice.  Arrangements by George White Funeral Home in 
Reading.
