Christensen, 89, of Belding, passed away Tuesday evening Dec. 6, 2011 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. Robert was born on Feb. 20, 1922 in Montcalm County, the son of LaVerne and Opal Henrickson Christensen. He proudly served his country the United States Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Sheridan VFW Post 5056, a member of the Belding- Ionia Masonic Lodge where he had served in several offices. Robert enjoyed summers at Raber Bay in the Upper Peninsula and winters in Southern Texas. He was married on March 21, 1942 in Belding to Doris Conklin, and she survives along with their children: Gary and Debra Christensen of Ionia, Gale and Bonnie Christensen of Belding, and Jerry B and Camille Christensen of Greenville; his grandchildren: Jay (Barbara) Christensen, Michelle (Matt) Castle, Timothy (Vicki) Chistensen, Gavin Christensen, Eric Christensen and (Kelly Watson) and Robyn Misner; his great grandchildren: Jared, Abigail, Mattelynn, Michaela, Owen, Madison, Jackson and Jaylynn; and his siblings: Sherwin and Donna Christensen of Clear Lake, Opal Linebaugh of Greenville and Ila Ann and Jed Fulkerson of Midland. Robert was preceded by his parents and one brother, Arthur. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Committal prayers will follow in Easton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Order of Eastern Star Doric Chapter 75 or the Sheridan VFW Post 5056.
