P. Christian was held Sunday afternoon at the home at 360 Jackson street. Rev. M. H. Garrard officiated and the music was furnished by Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Peck. The bearers were Chauncey and Earl Christian, Lorman Jones, Roy Winchell, Geo. Coe and Frank Perrett. The interment was in Balcom cemetery. Subsequent Publication: Tuesday, May 18, 1920 Rachel E. Smith was born at Gorham, N.Y., May 21, 1858, and came to Michigan with her parents when nine years of age. Her early life was spent near Lenawee county where she married B. F. Christian Sept. 26, 1875. She lived a quiet Christian life, assuming the care of a niece who died at the age of 12 years, and had with her at the time of her death, Mrs. R. V. Winchell, formerly, Miss Bessie Yerian on whom she had bestowed a mother’s love for nine years. She passed away peacefully May 14, 1920 lacking one week of being 62 years of age and was laid to rest in Balcom cemetery.
