Wave, Wed. May 20, 1981 WASHINGTON- David E. Christian, retired U.S. Government official, died May 12 in Washington D.C. following an illness spanning several years. Born in Woodland, Michigan in 1915, Christian graduated from Holland High School in 1932 and from Michigan State University in 1937. An economist on the staff of the President's Council of Economic Advisors from 1947 to 1950, Christian also served with the U.S. State Department from 1951 to 1954 in Europe. In 1955 he returned to the U.S. to serve with the U.S. Department of Labor for the next 13 years, the last few of which he worked as Assistant Secretary of Labor. From 1968 until his retirement in 1974, Christian was a member of the U.S. delegation to the Organization for Economic Corporation and Development in Paris. Term of duty also took him to Malaysia and Brazil for the State Department. Christian was married in 1940 in Detroit to Yolanda Shell, who died in 1974. His brother, Richard Christian resides in Ionia.
