Earl Church Found Dead in Pasture Creek Earl Church, 44, World War veteran and prominent Campbell township farmer, was found dead in a ditch at the back of the Layle Farm, one-half mile west of Clarksville, about ten o’clock Thursday morning. He left the house about eight o’clock with the cows and when he failed to return in a reasonable time the family began a search for him. The body was found by his father, Harry I. Church, in one foot of water in the deepest part of the ditch. Coroner Harry Myers pronounced it death by suicide. Mr. Church had been despondent over ill health and this was the only cause given for the act. Coroner Myers said no inquest would be held. The body was taken to the Beattie funeral parlor. Dr. E.L. Phelps of Clarksville attempted to resuscitate the man, but he was already dead. Sheriff Leslie Murphy and Coroner Myers were told that Church had been ill for the past nine years and was frequently despondent. He was born September 27, 1896, at Clarksville and lived there all his life. Mr. Church is survived by his widow, Mayme, a son, Douglas, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Church, all of Campbell township.
