Ontario Provincial Police said the craft was flying at about 100 feet when the rear propeller quit. The helicopter fell to the ground and burst into flames. Church was killed instantly. Church, a Kent County sheriff’s deputy, was a former Greenville policeman. He was also an instructor at Greenville Airport. Church was born Oct. 15, 1947, the son of Mr. and Mr. Chester W. Church in Big Rapids. He was a member of the united Methodist Church of Belding, and Greenville American Legion Post 101. A 1966 graduate of Belding High School, Church was also a Vietnam War veteran. On Jan. 22, 1966, Church was married to the former Patricia A. Sage at Belding. She survives. Surviving also are an infant son, Richard Patrick Church, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester W. Church, a grandmother, Mrs. Hazel Rowlin, and a brother, Wilson Church, all of Evart. Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Belding United Methodist Church. The Rev. Eugene Lewis will officiate. Church’s body reposes at Charles M. Courser Funeral Home, Belding.
