Church, 66, of rural Iona died Saturday afternoon at Ionia County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Evart, Mich., May 25, 1914, the son of Howard and Leola Calkins Church. He moved with his family to Grand Ledge, attended schools there, and worked for consumers Power Co. most of his working life. He retired from that company in August 1973 as supervisor of electrical distribution. He married Neva Lafler in Ionia Sept. 2, 1966 and they made their home on Cyrus Street until they moved to their present residence on Sayles road in 1973. Church attended Shiloh Community Church, was a member of the Ionia Masonic Lodge and Ionia County Fishing and Hunting Club. He is survived by his wife Neva; four sons, Vearl of Pleasant Lake, Gordon of Waukesha, Wisc., Lawrence of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Thomas of Perry; four stepsons, Garry Lafler of Lake Odessa, Marvin and Lynn Lafler, both of Ionia, and Blaine Lafler of Grand Ledge; one daughter, Mrs. Roland (Virginia) Schalow of Fenwick; two step-daughters, Mrs. Fred (Susan) Kammers of Eagle and Mrs. Donna Lafler of Ionia. Also surviving are three brothers, Harry of Harrison, Kenneth of Delton, and Richard of Owosso, one brother-in-law, Walter Pitchford of Ionia. One stepson, Karlyle Lafler, preceded him in death. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Leddick Funeral Home, the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. Masonic memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 7 p.m. visiting hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in the care of the funeral home.
