Mike was born September 22, 1949, and raised in Lyons/Muir, Michigan, the son of Joseph and Lois Ciganick. Mike was strong and very healthy, taking his beloved dog Ivan on an 8 mile bike run every morning. It was a shock to all when he suddenly passed away in his sleep. Mike was a graduate of Ionia High School where he was very active in band and music. He was so talented that he was sponsored by President Ford and accepted into the United States Marine Corps Band. He served with the Marines during the Vietnam War. Upon coming stateside he became a USMC Drill Instructor and ‘made Marines’ at Paris Island, South Carolina. After two terms Michael was discharged as Sergeant. Mike was preceded in death by his father Joseph Ciganick; and brother-in-law Ron Colman. He is survived by his very special friend Christie Lents of Tennessee; mother Lois Sullivan of Ionia; sisters Cindy (Steve) Brangwyn of Lansing, and Cathy Coleman of Ionia; brothers Paul of Ionia, James of Bitely, and Tom of Muir; former wire Mary; stepchildren Chris (Michelle) Covert of Comstock Park, Dave (Kathy) Covert of Ada, Gina (Todd) Bovee of Rockford, and Greg (Amy) Brown of Ada; and many local nieces and nephews. Michael was a general contractor most of his life. He used his knowledge as a Marine Drill Instructor to become an active Boy Scout Leader in the Ada/Grand Rapids area, and was responsible for training several Eagle Scouts, including his stepson Greg. Michael loved the great outdoors and took his scouts on numerous long term rugged outings, including many 50 mile hikes. He took his scouts hiking on the Appalachian Trail, into the Alaskan Bush, and many trips to the Michigan Upper Peninsula. Mike was a well-known survivalist speaker and trained thousands on the benefits of being prepared. He was an avid Bible believing Christian and used his contractor/building skills on several Missionary trips to South America. Michael also loved fishing, deer hunting, and camping on his property on Bois Blanc Island. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends in both Michigan and Grande Lagoon/Pensacola, Florida. Christian burial with full military services is being prepared and will be announced.
