Cilley, 86, well-known former Ionia county official, died quite suddenly at his home on Leonard St. Belding Friday. Mr. Cilley had been growing weaker. Death was attributed to a heart attack. A native of Boston township, he was born September 4, 1861, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cilley. He was a breeder of Ramboulett registered sheep and was the originator of the South Boston township Sheep Shearing Festival, which was an annual spring event in the county for years. He served two terms as county sheriff and later four terms as county drain commissioner. In June of 1932, he was married to Mrs. Margaret Leece of Keene. The couple lived on her farm in that vicinity until they sold in November of 1942 and came to Belding. Mrs. Cilley survives as does a son, by a former marriage, H.B. Blaine Cilley of Muskegon; a granddaughter and a great grandson; a sister, Mrs. Addie Newton of Caledonia also survives. Mr. Cilley was member of the Ionia Masonic Lodge and also of the Knights Templar. The body was removed to the Fitzjohn Funeral Chapel and funeral services were held Monday.
