The subject of this brief notice, a pensioner of the last war between the United States and Great Britain, was born near Rochester, N.Y., in 1799. Responding this early to his country’s call was but characteristic, the man who was ever in life where duty called. Out of this conscientious regard of duty, he in early life responded to the call of high Heaven for soldiers in the army of the Lord, and earnestly enlisted under the blood-stained banner of King Immanuel. He moved to this state in 1836, thus sharing with the early settlers in the hardships and privations attending the early pioneer. He finally moved to this township some three years since, where he remained up to the time of his death, respected and beloved by all who knew him. He united here with the M.E. church, and by his daily walk and acts of Christian love, showing that he had “Christ formed within the hope of glory.” In his death the church and community have sustained a truly great loss, but this loss is his great gain. Though his illness was long and severe he ever bore it with true Christian fortitude and patience. While his last hours were calm and peaceful, trusting in the Lord. There could hardly be a better tribute paid to his life and death than is contained by the text he selected for his funeral discourse, “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me write, blessed are the dead which died in the Lord from henceforth, You, with the spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/c/clark12001nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
