Clark was born Dec. 6th, 1826, in Steuben county, N.Y., and died Mar. 26th, 1911, at his home in Sebewa township, Ionia county aged 84 years, three months and 20 days. Jan. 20, 1852 he was married to Anna Jane Rice and moved with wife and two children to Michigan in 1855 settling in Ionia county where he lived until his death, thus becoming one of the old pioneers of Ionia county. To this union were born six children, Alice A., Grace M., Arthur B., Mina H., Elmer E., and Effie E., and one adopted son, Carl J., five of whom survive, Mina dying in infancy and Alice in later years. His wife preceded him to the heavenly home Aug. 13, 1910. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was the tenth child in a family of twelve children, one brother and one sister still surviving. He was one of the seven charter members of the Sebewa Baptist church. In the year 1861 he enlisted as drummer in Co. D., 9th Mich., Inf., and was a member of the V.O. Bretz Post, No. 382, Lake Odessa. The funeral was held Tuesday at the Sebewa Baptist church conducted by Rev. Kistler? of Portland, and burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Clark was well and very favorably known here, and his G.A.R. brothers and many friends will remember him long as true friend, a congenial associate and upright and highly respected citizen, as well as the “drummer boy” and singer of his old Company D. 9th Mich.
