Ionia Standard, 4 Aug 1916

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Clark died at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, at her home, 822 Hackett 
street.

Mrs. Clark was 78 years old, and had been ill for a long time.

Mrs. Clark’s maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Rider.  She was born in Columbia 
county, N.Y., September 12, 1837, and moved with her parents to Onandago county 
when about 20 months old.  The family lived in Van Buren until she was 21 years 
old.  On September 30 of that year she married Elanson B. Clark, and they came 
to Ionia to make their home in 1858.  Her home has been in this city ever 
since, except for one year spent in Lowell.  Her husband died March 21, 1887, 
since which time she has made her home with her sons, living constantly with 
L.S. Clark since the death of A. F. Clark two years ago last February.

There were three sons, one, William dying in infancy.  A. F. Clark conducted 
the business now in the hands of L.S. Clark almost till the time of his death, 
L.S. Clark living in Chicago until his brother’s death called him here.

Mrs. Clark leaves two sisters, Mrs. Maria Burns of South Danby, Oswego county, 
N.Y., and Mrs. Lucy R. Monroe, Congress Heights, Md.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. C. E. Hoag at the home at 2:00 
o’clock Tuesday afternoon.  Burial in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. William Sebright, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Sebright of Otsego, Frank L. 
Clark, a brother-in-law, from Saginaw, and Frank Clark of Grand Rapids, a 
nephew, Mrs. Sadie Sauer of Brooklyn, Michigan, and Mrs. Grace Wiersema of 
Grand Rapids are expected here to attend the funeral.
