Lyons Herald, 16 May 1912

William Clark, who has made his home at the stone quarry for the past several 
years, was found dead, and floating in the water in one of the many holes where 
stone had been removed.  He was subject to heart failure and the absence of 
water in the lungs indicated that he must have died during an attack, the body 
rolling into the water.

He had been to Lowell on Saturday, and about 7:30 that evening he was driven 
home, in a livery rig, by Jay Price.  Sunday, about 2 o’clock, Wm. Barrett, 
tenant on the H.B. Webber farm, became alarmed because Mr. Clark had not come 
to his house as usual.  He walked to the quarry and found the body which he 
managed to get out with the aid of a rake.

Mr. Clark was about sixty-one years old, living most of his life in Lyons, 
where his wife was buried sixteen years ago.  She left five children, two by a 
former marriage and three of them Mr. Clark’s.  Mrs. Timmer of Grand Rapids and 
Glenn Wasnich of Ionia were her children.  Mr. Clark’s children, being younger, 
were adopted by friends upon their mother’s death.  Jennie was adopted by Mr. 
and Mrs. John Gardner of Ionia and afterward married Robert Alspaugh; she died 
two years ago.  Marion was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Tillison, and Earl Ransom 
Clark was taken by Jas. Perett.  Besides his children, Mr. Clark leaves a 
sister, Mrs. Frost of Ionia, and three brothers, Robert of Pewamo, Ed. of 
Rockford and Frank of Oregon.

An inquest was judged unnecessary.  The funeral services were held at two 
o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Gardner in Ionia.  
Interment in Lyons cemetery.
