                         SOUTH IONIA GIRL FOUND DEAD FRIDAY
             Eliza Clark, Thought Despondent Over Inability to Secure 
                    Employment Ends Life in Filling Station

Eliza Clark, 22, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Clark, South Ionia residents, 
shot and killed her self in the oil station of her father shortly before 9 
o'clock Friday morning.

She relieved her father at the station while he had his breakfast. Evidently 
brooding over not being able to find work, she took a .22 automatic pistol from 
behind several books in the bookcase, and shot herself through the right 
temple. She was found 15 minutes later by her father when he returned to the 
station. She used the same pistol which had figured in several holdups at the 
station during the past five years.

Eliza Clark was graduated from the SS. Peter and Paul academy in 1929, and was 
prominent among the young people of South Ionia, and of the city of Ionia. She 
was an ardent follower of tennis, and was classed as one of the best woman 
players in the city. She was constantly in evidence on the tennis courts at the 
fairgrounds during the tennis season. She was a faithful member of the SS. 
Peter and Paul church and active in affairs of the Academy alumni. She was a 
graduate student at the Ionia high school for two years.

Coroner Orin Stone said there would be no inquest.

Surviving are the young woman's mother and father and four brothers, Rome, 
Arthur, Harold and Eugene
