Clark, 66, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Ionia, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 16, 1936 in Ionia. He married Darlene (Ward) Clark from Saranac in 1953. Dick worked for the Ionia County Road Commission before moving out of state and becoming a boilermaker, a trade at which he earned the respect of his colleagues and he excelled. He was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn (Clark) Jacobs; wife Darlene, and their infant son Danny. Dick married Ruth Waldon in 1992 in Nevada where they made their home. There the beautiful wide-open space and the wondrous mountain terrain he so loved surrounded him. He was in awe of the old west and its way. His daily trips into the mountains would reward him with their beauty, his find of Indian artifacts, wild horses and his Higher Power. While being a very private man, Dick allowed himself the company of only a few select close friends. He was an opinionated man who stood strong in his beliefs. While being a supportive father he encouraged his children in their endeavors and was extremely proud of the fact that his son Ron was a member of the United States Air Force. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Surviving Richard is his wife Ruth Clark, daughters Toni and Jackie and grandchildren Breeanna and Justin, all of Nevada; daughter Brenda Curtis of Ionia; son and daughter-in-law Ron and Kim Clark of Florida, grandchildren, Melissa and Eric Curtis of Ionia, and Kayla Clark of Florida; sisters Jenny (Bruce) Jacobs of Carson City, Linda (Doug) Robatham of Beulah, Carol Clark and Patty Thornberg of Indiana, Toni (Roger) Smith of Connecticut, Patti (Steve) Barber of Carson City; and many aunts, nieces and nephews. May the “Great Spirit” hold him in his gentle loving arms and whisper “Peace” to those who are left behind. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services for Dick will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 21 at Shiloh Community Church all purpose building with Pastor Kendall Harger officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggest a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice.
