She Lived at Portland For Nearly 100 Years. PORTLAND, Mich. April 20 - Polly Soles Clark, the oldest person in Ionia county and one of the oldest in the state, is dead at her home in this village, aged 98 years. She was a native of Auburn, Vt., where she was born February 8, 1802. She married Lewis T. Clark when not yet 17 years of age. They came to Ann Arbor in 1840 and to Portland in 1842, and she had resided here continuously ever since. She was a pensioner of the war of 1812, and up to a few years ago signed her pension voucher, when the government instructed that she make her "mark" upon the vouchers. She was the grandmother of James B. Decker, late proprietor of the Welch house in Portland. She came of a long-lived family. Her father lived to be 88, her mother 85, a sister. 82 and a brother 92 years of age. She was a member of the Congregational church and has been for more than half a century.
