CLASSIC DIES SUDDENLY Herald E. Classic, 74, prominent Woodland druggist passed away unexpectedly at 9 a.m., Saturday morning and was dead on admittance at Pennock Hospital, Hastings. He was born October 18, 1900 at St. Johns, the son of Joseph and Lena (Lutz) Classic. The family moved to Lake Odessa from Grand Ledge in 1913 and he graduated from the Lake Odessa High School in 1919 and from the Ferris State College in 1922 as a pharmacist. Mr. Classic was employed by the Smelker Drug Store at Lake Odessa from 1917 to 1934 when he purchased the drug store at Woodland which he still operated. He also operated the drug store at Clarksville from 1954 until 1962. Mr Classic married Lucy E. Austin December 6, 1925 at Lake Odessa. A member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church since 1913, he was a charter member of the Woodland Lions Club, Village Clerk at Woodland for 39 years and church treasurer for the last 25 years and was a member of the Woodland School Board of Education for 20 years. Surviving are his wife Lucy E; three daughters, Mrs. Duane (Norma Jean) Club of Howell, Mrs. Glendon (Betty) Curtis and Mrs. Galeln (Shirley) Kilmer, both of Woodland; one son Marvin of Woodland; 11 grand children and one great grand child; and two sisters, Mrs. Murray (Susie) Hansbarger and Mrs. Larry (Neya) Root, both of Lake Odessa. Mr Classic repposed at the Pickens-Koop Chapel at Lake Odessa until 11 a.m. Tuesday and was then taken to the Lakewood United Methodist Church where serves were held at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Charles Dunbar officiated and burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Leader Dog Fund or for the Lakewood United Methodist Church.
