Maurice was born Feb. 27, 1914 in Prairie Elk, Mont. the son of Lee and Etola Youngs Clements. Maurice graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1932 where he lettered in football and played basketball. In earlier years, he and his wife owned the Texaco Gas Station and Store in Orleans. Later he worked as a mechanic for Raymond and Anderson Ford in Belding and later at Braman Sheet Metal. He was a founding member of the Orleans Township Fire Department. While the new township fire hall was being built he was the ‘Sidewalk Superintendent.’ He and his wife, Mildred enjoyed a number of winters in Texas and were members of the Restless Ones Trailer Club in Ionia. Maurice lived a good long life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was married on Aug. 17, 1934 by his Uncle Howard Noddins who was Justice of Peace in Orleans to Mildred Couzzins and she preceded him on February 7, 2000. He was also preceded by his parents; one brother, Ernest; a grandson, Todd Michael Stahl and one great-grandson, Zachary Hedberg. Maurice is survived by his children, Sharon (Daryl) Stahl of Homosassa, Fla., Terry (Midge) Clements of Grand Ledge; 5 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Clements of Florida; his first cousin Maysel Miller and close friend, Les Doty. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Interment will follow in Orleans Township Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the Orleans Township Fire Department.
