Clements, 86, of Ionia, passed away on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015. He was born on March 19, 1929, to Fredrick and Eleanor (Griffith) Clements. On June 20, 1953, he married, Yvonne Scutt and she preceded him in death in 2002 after nearly 50 years of marriage. Roger was a Navy Seabee during World War II, stationed on Guam, Okinawa, the Philippines and Hawaii. After his first tour of duty he signed up for the reserves and was called back to active duty during the Korean War, serving another tour of duty most of which was on Adak in Alaska’s Aleutian Islands. He was employed at Ionia’s Mitchell Bentley Manufacturing facility upon returning home from active duty. He later worked in the building and asphalt industry. He retired from C&B Asphalt which he co-owned with his partners. He was a wonderful husband and father who especially loved spending time at the cottage with family and friends. In his younger years, he was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycling, boating and various other activities that he participated in with his family. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Kenneth Scutt and a sister-in-law, Fay Clements. Surviving are his children Judy (George) McDonald of Belding, Gary (Kim) Clements of Ionia, Linda Clements of Ionia and Laura Clements of Charlotte; grandchildren David Nelson of Ionia, Amy (Stephen) Mestdagh of Wyoming, Melisa (Matt Keeler) Clements of Ionia and Michael (Jessica) Clements of Ionia; two step-grandsons, George (Heather) McDonald of Cedar Springs and Andrew McDonald of Ludington; special companion, Jane Scutt of Portland; siblings, Robert (Charlene) Clements of Greenville, Sharon (Paul) Tompsett of Trufant, Phil (Shirley) Clements of Big Rapids; brother-in-law, Cleo (Louise) Scutt of Portland; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Funeral Service will be conducted by Pastor Donna Sperry at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. Interment will follow at Tuttle Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at Eaton Community Palliative Care for their care of Roger.
