Mr. and Mrs. Coates were residents of Ionia many years until they moved to Detroit where they have been living for the past 35 years. Mrs. Coates was the only surviving sister of Mrs. Anna B. Curtis, and at the time of Mrs. Curtis’ death she was too ill to attend the funeral. Surviving Mrs. Coates is her husband, two sons, Walter and Ernest, both of Detroit, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Stone funeral home Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, interment at the Highland Park cemetery. Subsequent Publication: Friday, February 16, 1934 Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Stone funeral home for Mrs. Thomas Coates who died at her home in Detroit Monday evening. The body was brought to Ionia Wednesday, accompanied by her son Ernest Coates, following a prayer service in Detroit. Rev. Paul Stewart of the Church of Christ officiated. The Lady Maccabees attended the services in a body. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Guy Messacar and Mrs. Wesley Grieves. Bearers for the services were Abe Engleman, James Callow, Frank McCumber and Thomas Earle. Those from Detroit who attended the services were her husband Thomas Coates and two sons, Ernest Coates and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Coates.
