He was born at Scarbrough, England, July 18, 1868, and came to Ionia with his parents when he was in his early teens, and attended the Ionia schools. For about 18 years he made his home in Ionia, and was employed by the Pere Marquette Railway company. He moved to Detroit about 40 years ago, and was employed at Hudson’s store for many years. Surviving are the wife, Elizabeth; two sons, Walter and Celon Coates; one sister, Mrs. Annie Ketchum, of Ionia, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Detroit Tuesday, and then the body will be sent to the Myers funeral home in Ionia. Services will be held Wednesday, March 5, at 2:00 p.m. from the Myers funeral home on East Main street and interment will be at Highland park cemetery. Rev. George Woolcock will officiate.
