Richard L. Coates, age 88, of Ionia passed away on Saturday , April 28 at 
Spectrum Health-Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born June 29, 1918 in 
Ionia to Elmer and Hazel ( Beckhorn) Coates. Richard married Aileen Warnes on 
May 10, 1941, who preceded him in death on June 18, 2006.  Richard was a World 
War II veteran having served with an Engineering Division in Europe. He was 
retired from Consumers Power Company and loved the outdoors. He was an avid 
fisherman, gardener and loved to bowl.

Richard is survived by his daughter Pamela Nyman of Big Rapids; brother Gordon 
( Barb) Coates of Jenison; sister, Marie McCarn of Ionia; sister-in-law Esther 
Coates of Nunica and Beverly Coates of Stanton; brothers-in-law Gerald Mason 
of Belding and Vern (Elaine) Warnes of Ionia and many nieces and nephews.  He 
was also preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Roy Nyman; sisters Alice 
Mason and Dorothy Rumohr, brothers, William and Harry (Ray) Coates and 
brothers-in-law, Edward Vern McCarn and Don Rumohr, nephew Ken Coates and 
nieces, Linda Sue Feuerstein and Rose Rumohr.

Per Richard's request cremation has taken place. Arrangements by Lake Funeral 
Home of Ionia.
